Chalmers Policies

Chalmers is committed to providing an environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity and respect. This includes an environment that is free of violence and harassment. 

 

Neither violence nor harassment will be tolerated from any person at Chalmers, including but not limited to, staff, volunteers, or community members. Harassment because of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, family status, receipt of public assistance or record of offences is expressly prohibited. Everyone at Chalmers must be dedicated to preventing workplace violence and harassment. 

Harassment consists of engaging in either direct or indirect conduct that is harmful and that is known, or ought reasonably to be known, to be unwelcome. Chalmers staff, volunteers, and guests are expected to behave decently and respectfully towards one another.

The following will not be tolerated:

  • Failure to cooperate with a staff person. 

  • Failure to follow any Chalmers Code of Conduct,  policies or procedures. 

  • Discourtesy or disrespect towards any staff member, volunteer, or Chalmers guest.

  • Verbal, physical, or sexual harassment or abuse of any staff member, volunteer, or community member. 

  • Actual or threatened violence towards any individual or group. 

  • Conduct endangering the life, safety, health, or well-being of others.

  • Bullying or taking unfair advantage of any staff member, volunteer, or Chalmers guest.

  • Theft. 

  • Smoking or vaping in the building or within 9 meters of doors

  • Possession or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs on Chalmers property or volunteering while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 

  • Bringing dangerous unauthorized materials such as explosives, firearms, weapons, or similar items onto Chalmers property. 

 

Failure to comply with the above will result in a suspension from entering Chalmers and accessing services.
